MAUBARA, Timor-Leste — A landmark month: the HAAP (Hanorin Aprende — teaching and learning) program was officially launched by Minister H.E. Dulce de Jesus Soares, taking digital Tetun-language early learning resources to preschools and homes nationally. World Mosaic worked in partnership with in-country development lead, Mary MacKillop Today, and the Ministry of Education to co-design, develop, pilot, implement and measure the impact of the program for young learners and those who support them.

From the first field observations in 2023 to launch day, the program has been shaped by children, teachers, families and Ministry of Education stakeholders at every step. The butterfly motif, born when Timorese children saw a butterfly slide and asked to draw their own, captures what the whole project is for: wonder first, then learning that follows the child.
